In
partnership with IBM, Novell, Citrix, and Stargate (an
ISP/ASP provider) we offer an Internet service whereby
our stowage planning products can be used remotely. Using
thin client technology, we can enable any client anywhere
to manage time and cargo without actually installing software
on their personal computers.
Web site users have all the inherent advantages of
load planning, yet won't need the application, the ship
models, nor even the booking list to reside on their
workstation or a local server. Instead, the load planning
software is actually resident on a server at Stargate.
Remote access through the Internet allows users to run
our Stowage Planning Software using any available computer
with Internet connection. The type of the computer and
its operating system are no longer relevant. Moreover,
thin client technology allows multiple users to run
the same instance of an application at the same time.
This means that port captains, stevedores and chief
officers can work interactively on the same stowage
plan.
The Autoship Internet Model
- Carrier Model
How will Internet load planning solutions work? The
mechanics of Internet business transaction model are
as shown in the following example.
Figure 1 shows the partnership between ASC, the carrier
company, and Stargate. Autoship provides the SPS executable
(shell) and the ship models, while the carrier company
controls user access rights. Stargate provides the secure
platform on which the system is run.
Stargate will enable the System User
to use the SPS application, and to print locally (if
desired). It will appear to the user that SPS is on
the local machine, when in fact it remains on the Stargate
server.

Since the launch of the Carrier Model in May 2000,
ASC has used this technology to conduct familiarization
training for load planners of several major shipping
lines. The system users all received a tremendous (and
very quantifiable) benefit of our Internet service:
they all received valuable SPS training, without having
to leave their respective offices.
Internet system users have the option of using web-enabled
software on a per use basis, eliminating the need to
purchase the software - which is attractive to companies
that have to deal with many ships on an irregular basis.
ASC is presently working with supercargoes to get them
web-enabled.
Autoship's web initiatives offer greatly reduced operating,
training, and hardware costs, and increase efficiency
of customer technical support. Contact us to see if
E-Logistics is part of the solution for you.
