Far Samson is a construction support vessel with a length of 121.5m and a beam of 26m. Outfitted at Aker Yard Langsten and designed and equipped by Rolls Royce (RR), the Far Samson was built according to DNV’s strict environmental class ‘Clean Design’. Onboard is the RR hybrid propulsion system combining diesel electric and mechanical transmission making it very fuel efficient and producing minimal exhaust emissions. Catalytic converters on the generator sets reduce the nitrogen oxide by 95 percent. The vessel’s world record bollard pull of 423 tonnes can create 2.5m ditches pulling a remote controlled plough on the seabed laying pipeline in just one procedure.
Located in Ålesund, Norway, Farstad Shipping is a major international supplier of large, modern offshore support vessels. The company have installed Autoload on all vessels since 2000 and they recently made the decision to purchase the program fleet wide.
ASC’s Autoload Stability and Load Planning software is installed on over 600 vessels world-wide. It is a robust, intuitive, easy to use program that offers a simple to understand display of key hydrostatic values that are critical for safe vessel loading. With minimal input from the user, the program provides a quick and accurate assessment of the vessel’s current stability status, loads and important margins. The user is then free to make critical decisions while the computer takes care of the mathematical complexity.
Part of ASC’s success comes from their ability to meet the client’s requirements by presenting and representing complex tasks in a user friendly and intuitive graphical user interface. A common quote from clients is “This is the best representation of the solution I have seen.”
In 2010 Autoship Systems Corporation of Vancouver, Canada will mark their 30 year anniversary of providing leading-edge CAD/CAM software for vessel design and construction, on-board strength and stability monitoring and customized load planning.
